- Full Time
- UK - Remote
- 60000-70000 GBP / Year
You’ve been doing this for a decade. You don’t just write code; you understand why you’re writing it that way. You can hold your ground in a technical debate and actually enjoy the challenge. Sound like you?
Most senior dev roles are just “do more of the same work, but faster.” This isn’t that.
We’re working with a fast-growing digital division of a major European pet food group building a centralised e-commerce platform for multiple brands across the UK and EU. They’re currently hiring a senior developer, but there’s a bigger picture here.
The company’s restructuring around April. Current leads are transitioning into Engineering Manager roles, and they’re being divided into multiple small teams with Lead Developer positions reporting to them. They want to hire someone now who has the potential to step into one of those lead roles when the time comes.
Translation: They’re hiring for senior capability with leadership potential, not just another pair of hands.
The work
Now until April: Senior developer on platform migrations. AWS macroservices, TypeScript, Lambda, API Gateway, Commercetools. Solving problems like migrating 500k customer databases, building headless/MACH architecture across multiple brands.
After April: Opportunities for leadership as the team restructures. If you’ve proven you’re the kind of senior developer others turn to for guidance, there’s a clear path to a Lead Developer role.
What you need
Experience:
~10 years in the industry (not just coding, but understanding systems)
5+ years with TypeScript/Node.js
Solid AWS experience (Lambda and API Gateway essential)
E-commerce background (agency, in-house, or adjacent platforms)
The intangibles:
You can explain the “why” behind technical decisions, not just the “how”
Comfortable being vocal and backing up your opinions
You’re not afraid to push back when you disagree—as long as you can explain your reasoning
Other developers naturally turn to you for guidance
You understand e-commerce concepts (PDPs, SKUs, complex data migrations)
Nice to have:
Commercetools experience (genuinely impressive if you do)
Platform migration war stories
Terraform, GitHub Actions, other AWS services
What you’re getting
£65-70k (they’ll stretch for the right person), fully remote in the UK, with tight deadlines and challenging work. You’ll be expected to solve problems and help others understand how to solve them too.
But here’s the real deal: join a growing team where leadership opportunities are coming, backed by a major European parent company.
No startup risk, 3-year rollout plan, multiple migrations lined up. You’re getting in at the right time, when the team is small enough that your impact matters and growing fast enough that opportunities are opening up.
Think this sounds like you? Stop being a senior developer who just executes other people’s decisions. Come and make a meaningful impact where it matters.
