Technical Lead — Fully Remote (UK)

TypeScript | Node.js | AWS | Serverless | Headless Ecommerce

Want to lead technically without spending your entire week in meetings?

We are working with a fast-growing D2C subscription brand in the pet space, and we’re looking for a hands-on Technical Lead to join its expanding digital team.

This is a genuine 50/50 technical leadership and coding role. You’ll have ownership of architecture and technical direction, lead engineers through complex delivery, and still spend a significant part of your week writing production code.

The opportunity

The business is investing heavily in its digital and ecommerce capability, moving established brands away from legacy platforms and onto a modern, scalable infrastructure.

You’ll take technical ownership of a delivery squad working across large-scale ecommerce migrations and new digital products.

The work is varied. Current projects across the wider team include personalisation, A/B testing, AI-powered search and customer-facing digital tools, alongside the continued evolution of the core ecommerce platform.

You’ll be trusted to make decisions rather than simply execute someone else’s architecture.

What you’ll be doing

Around 50% of your role will remain hands-on, with the other half focused on architecture, technical leadership, removing blockers and helping the wider team deliver.

You’ll:

Lead the technical direction of your squad
Design and evolve scalable architectures
Remain hands-on with TypeScript, Node.js and AWS
Build and integrate APIs and services
Help engineers solve complex technical problems
Make pragmatic architectural decisions based on business requirements
Support major platform migrations and new product launches
Work closely with product and business stakeholders
Mentor developers and raise engineering standards across the team

What we’re looking for

You’ll probably already be a Technical Lead, Lead Engineer or Lead Full Stack Developer.

We’re also open to an exceptional Senior Engineer ready to make the move into a Technical Lead position — but you’ll need to already be demonstrating technical ownership and leadership in your current role.

Technically, we’re looking for strong experience with:

JavaScript / TypeScript / Node.js
AWS, particularly serverless technologies such as Lambda, API Gateway and SQS
Building and designing APIs
Microservice/service-based architectures
Modern frontend development
Web performance and scalable applications

Experience with headless ecommerce, MACH/composable architecture or platform migrations would be particularly valuable.

And if you’ve worked with Commercetools, even better — although it isn’t essential.
